Borehole Flushing:
Borehole flushing, or clean out, removes sediment and debris from the borehole using highly compressed air. This process is crucial for maintaining a healthy water supply and preventing damage to the pump.
Why Flush Your Borehole?
Residue buildup from drilling or leaving the borehole uncovered for too long can cause serious problems. Flushing prevents damage to the pump and ensures clean water supply by removing dirty water from the casing.
Borehole Flushing in Zimbabwe
In Zimbabwe, borehole flushing is vital due to the depth and size of casings. A 40-meter borehole can hold up to 800 liters of water, which needs to be pumped out before connecting to the system. If your borehole is drilled in areas with red fine soils or pit sand, consider installing a filter to prevent debris and particles from entering the pump.

Signs You Need Borehole Flushing
Look out for brown or milky water, unusual smell or taste, or lack of maintenance. Siltation caused by ground movement can also be a problem.
How to Tell if Flushing was Successful
Check for no smell in the water and clean water. You can also perform a DIY test by filling a clean, transparent bottle with borehole water and letting it settle for 6 hours. If the water is clean, the flush was successful.
